Allan Williams is a versatile and innovative artist, working in oils, acrylics and mixed media. He paints highly detailed figurative paintings, sometimes combining surrealist and illusionistic elements.
Originally from Wales, he moved to Suffolk from London some years ago, and his subjects include images of the Suffolk coast, such as the form and colours of the waves, the effects of the eroding coastline, and boat wrecks.
Allan likes to put humour into his artwork as with his latest Beach Hut series where he imagines what various artists beach huts would look like. E.g.: Renee Magritte, Jackson Pollack, Salvidor Dali and Vincent Van Gogh.
Allan takes commissions for portraits of people, places and pets. One speciality is painting portraits in the style of famous artists, such as David Bowie in the style of Picasso, Robin Williams and Ed Sheeran in the style of Van Gogh.
He has exhibited widely in the UK and Canada, where he holds a Masters Degree in Fine Arts. He regularly exhibits at the Ferini Gallery in Pakefield (www.pakefieldgallery.com). He has been a member of Suffolk Open Studios (www.suffolkopenstudios.org) since 2012.
Allan has also painted several sculptures for the "Wild In Art' sculpture trails: “Pigs Gone Wild” (Ipswich, 2016), "Elmer's Big Parade" (Ipswich, 2019) "Hares About Town" (Southend, 2021) and “Shaun in the Heart of Kent” (Maidstone 2024). He has also taken part in the “PAWsitivity” art trail in aid of Suffolk Libraries in 2023 with his painted labrador sculpture, “Watchdog” inspired by the paintings of Salvidor Dali.
Allan is a Programme Leader for Ipswich based charity, Inside Out (www.insideoutcommunity.com) and believes passionately in the healing power of the creative arts.
